Should Hair Be Included in Your Sew-In Price?

Including hair in your sew-in price gives you more control over the result and a higher ticket, but only if your price covers the hair, your time sourcing it, and the risk of ordering it. If it doesn't, a base install where the client brings their own hair is the cleaner option. You can also offer both.

There's no single right answer. There's only the option your pricing can support.

Why Including Hair Works

When you supply the hair, you control the quality. You know how it blends, how it holds up, and how it behaves after the install. That means fewer surprises and a more consistent finished result.

It's also simpler for the client. They book one service, pay one price, and show up. No shopping, no wondering if they bought the right texture or enough bundles.

And it raises the value of every appointment, because you're selling the complete look, not only your labor.

What Including Hair Costs You

Supplying hair comes with real costs that have to be built into your price:

  • The money you spend on hair before the appointment
  • Your time researching, ordering, and prepping it
  • The risk of a client canceling after you've ordered
  • Responsibility for how the hair performs
  • If your price doesn't account for all four, including hair costs you money.

When the Client Brings Their Own Hair

A base install with client-supplied hair takes the hair cost and the ordering risk off your plate. The tradeoff is control. If the hair is low quality, the wrong texture, or not enough bundles, you still have to make it work, and your name is still on the result.

If you offer this option, set clear standards: what kind of hair you'll install, how many bundles the look needs, and what happens if the hair doesn't meet your standards.

    Offering Both

My sew-in menu has both: a $355 base install, and hair-included pricing at $694, $794, and $894 for 2, 3, and 4 bundles. Clients who want the simplest experience choose hair included. Clients who already have hair they trust choose the base install.

Offering both works as long as each option is priced to stand on its own.

    Use Deposits Either Way

If you include hair, collect a deposit that covers it before you order. If the client brings hair, a deposit still protects your time. Either way, the deposit is what makes the booking real.
